🚀 FSD coming in China
Plus: v12.3.6 rolls out, CyberTruck's Euro tour, HiPhi to resume operations and more
Hey S3XY 🧤, A lot can happen over weekend in the Elonverse. Last Friday NHTSA said to open a new probe to assess whether the recent recall for over 2 million cars back in December actually did enough to address safety concerns surrounding its Autopilot driver assistance system. Also some stupid retarded billionaire named Dustin Moskovitz threw baseless allegations against Tesla and compared it with ‘Enron‘.
Though thankfully Elon’s China visit over this weekend trashed out all stupid stuff and big news came in that Tesla cleared essential regulatory hurdles to launch FSD in China. Also partnership with China’s Baidu would fast progress it’s autonomy dreams in the country.
And some other highlights from today’s letter 📨:
Another bot in town.
Huge investment in AI by Tesla.
Hyundai and Baidu partnership.
Nio tries solid state batteries.
Let’s take a dive..👇🏻

WHISPERS
CyberTruck taken off road.
Tesla isn’t just any other car company, it’s an ocean full of emotions, drama, passion and relentless vision of Elon & team to make it work.
George Blankenship, former VP of Sales, gets emotional as he recounts Tesla's efforts to deliver the targeted 4,750 cars in Q1 2013, allowing the company to turn a profit for the first time in its history. @elonmusk

Interesting that Tesla Energy alone is doing more revenue than whole Nio or Xpeng & Polestar combined.
Tesla's Energy & Storage business added as much revenue as the sale of 37,700 vehicles in Q1 2024. This is more than NIO total sales (30,053) or more than the combined sales of Xpeng and Polestar (21,821 + 7,200).
Tesla's Energy & Storage business also has much better margins! twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Wow, don’t sleep on robotics potential. Here is glimpse of Chinese bot.

INDUSTRY FILES
Bots are coming: There is opportunity to ship ‘billions’ of robots in coming decade, per Brett Adcock of Figure Robotics.
Trap: Few weeks back, Fisker put up more than 40% off its ‘Ocean’; don’t fall for this trap, it probably is still very bad deal.
Praise: Xpeng CEO welcomes Tesla to bring FSD to China.
Battery tech: Nio has begun trial operations of the 150-kWh semi-solid battery pack, with official operations of the ultra-long-range battery pack set to begin a month later.
Supplier: CATL and Hyundai enters into strategic partnership to power Hyundai’s upcoming EVs with CATL batteries.
Smart cars: Hyundai signed an agreement with Chinese tech giant Baidu to develop technologies for connected cars, including autonomous software, artificial intelligence (AI), and more.
Another chance: HiPhi has recently received a strategic investment from a Hong Kong-based organization that will help it resume operations and production.
Solid batteries: CATL aims to produce all-solid-state batteries in small batches by 2027, but high-volume production will still face challenges including cost, an executive said.
