šŸš€ Tesla reclaims its spot

Plus: Canoo sinks, 4680 update, Ford relieves and more

Hey S3XY 🧤, Tesla China delivers 89064 vehicles in March which gets Q1 number to total of 220,876. Though that’s a dip of 3.68% compared to same quarter of previous year i.e. 2023.
Given the performance of other Chinese BEV players and overall market conditions, it doesn’t seem that bad given the average selling price of Tesla remains much higher than its peers.
Also Tesla is going to get back its no. 1 EV player title in terms of unit sales after BYD’s Q1 number came in at 300K.
And some other highlights from today’s letter šŸ“Ø:

  • BYD falls on the list.

  • ARK buys more.

  • Austin & Tesla bond.

  • Xiaomi resetting targets.

Let’s take a dive..šŸ‘‡šŸ»

TESLA BULLETS

Impact & efficiency: Tesla becomes Austin’s largest private employer. A full deep dive of Giga Texas by Rohan Patel.

Least discounted: If you have an impression that Tesla discounts too often, glance at this chart from Germany to get an reality check.

China numbers: Tesla China insurance registration for last week i.e. March 25-31 came in at 17300.

Fast: Tesla Model 3 Ludicrous might get unveiled in a day or two.

Loader: Nothing new, another day of ARK loading up as usual.

Impressed: Oliver Cameron has to say something about Tesla FSD; Oliver isn’t yet another FSD tester, he co-founded self driving company ā€œVoyageā€ back in 2017 which later got acquired by Cruise.

China numbers 2.0: Tesla China Q1 wholesale ended at 220,876 for 2024 which is slightly lower than that of previous year’s 229,322.

WHISPERS

Why neural networks and not the ā€˜codes’ is the only path to achieve complete autonomy. Tesla recognised this early enough to create monopoly.

Ever wondered about state wise regulations regarding autonomous vehicles.

Delivery estimates.

More 4680s on Tesla’s way?

Only worthy April Fool’s joke out there for 2024 that wouldn’t remain ā€˜joke’ few years down the line.

INDUSTRY FILES

Short lived: BYD sold 300,114 BEVs in Q1, meaning Tesla is about to get back on No. 1 spot in term of unit sales. (Don’t even bother thinking about in value terms.)

Tipping point: Currently there are 31 countries with BEV market share of more than 5% of new car sales. Norway tops the list with whooping 79.6%.

Price cuts: Honda UK cuts prices by upto ᅯ5000 for e:Ny1.

Demand: Xiaomi raises monthly production target of SU7 to 10K units amid strong demand.

Manpower: Nio looking to expand its team for ā€˜Onvo’ sub brand.

Relief: Looks like Ford is finally getting rid of inventory build up for Mustang Mach-e after huge price drop last month.

RIP: Canoo shares dives deep after lacklustre revenue forecast.

Dominance: About quarter of EVs sold in Europe this year would be ā€˜Made in China’.

THAT’S THOUGHTFUL

Every problem is a gift — without problems we would not grow.
