🚀 Tony Seba's Robot Alert!

Plus: New Optimus video, robotaxi economics, Zeekr IPO and more

Hey S3XY 🧤, Renowned futurist Tony Seba is back in prediction game and this time he predicts how humanoids robots are so ready to take over the world. Last time he precisely predicted decline of ICE, energy dynamics and battery tech long before anyone saw it coming.
While Seba's latest forecast may not surprise those immersed in the realm of robotics, its implications are profound.

Throughout the past century or two, major disruptions have typically seen the replacement of outdated technologies within two to three decades; if that holds true for human labour, our world would be vastly different as this time the departing technology at stake is beyond anything like we have ever seen before, that is labour a.k.a HUMANS.

Tesla is proactively superheading in this industry by wide margin, it already has all the manufacturing capabilities and expertise to churn out bots faster and at scale than anybody else combined.
Plus the approach of training the bots (neural nets) doesn’t confine Optimus to specific task scenario which opens up the TAM to millions of units, billions if we could envision things from Elon’s lens.

Exciting times lie ahead, both for humanity and Tesla shareholders, as the dawn of the robotic era beckons.

And some other highlights from today’s letter 📨:

  • Elon's advice to Warren Buffett.

  • Tom Zhu back in China (only).

  • Brainless Waymo.

  • Hyundai invests in autonomy.

Let’s take a dive..👇🏻

Important: You might want to drop everything and make time out to read Tony Seba’s latest take of humanoid robots if Optimus plays pivotal role in your Tesla valuation model.

Return of the king: Tesla gears up to take on Chinese competition as Tom Zhu has been downshifted from the management of EU and NA, and returned to his previous SVP status in China.

Robotaxi economics: If you ever thought that Tesla robotaxi might have enormous competition, see this analysis first.

Unlikely though: Elon has some advice for Warren Buffett.

Mighty hand: Optimus hands currently have 11 degrees of freedom (DoF) compared to many competitors with only 6-7 DoF, and Elon says it will double from here during this year itself.

Analyst: Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Andres Sheppard just began coverage on Tesla with a recommendation to buy with a target price of $230.

Semi truck: Walmart appears to have taken delivery of a Tesla semi truck.

Variant: Tesla has launched a brand new Long Range RWD Model Y variant in the U.S.

Vote: Tesla has released a dedicated website to help shareholders cast their vote.

INDUSTRY FILES

Neural nets: Waymo might have all the cameras, radars, LiDARS and what not but its lacking one thing that matters most, BRAINS.

Growth: Volvo’s electric vehicle (BEV) sales increased 94% (year-on-year) to 17,100 units in April.

Fundraise: Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, is seeking a valuation of more than $5 billion in its US initial public offering.

Expansion: Electrify America is planning a big expansion of its fast-charging network in 2024.

Autonomy: Hyundai is investing nearly $1 billion to develop self-driving technology through Motional, an autonomous driving startup.

Market share: The auto market saw plugin EVs take 91.0% share in Norway in April, roughly flat from 91.1% year on year. BEVs alone took 89.4% share, up from 83.3% YoY.

Unveil: Nissan introduces Townstar Evalia Electric with up to seven-seat capacity.

Charging infra: Electric ride-hailing company Revel sees Tesla’s abandoned Supercharger projects in New York as an opportunity.

THAT’S THOUGHTFUL

It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.
